Peace United Church of Christ

News from the April 15 Bulletin

It is a tradition by now, but this article is purely speculative. Are the men of Peace Church willing to put their heads together over the next few weeks to plan an amazing menu to be served here the morning of May 13th, which is Mothers’ Day? Remember, this is better than breakfast in bed, because Mom gets to sit in a real chair and eat from a real table and bed sheets won’t get food or coffee stains. In the past, we’ve served from 8:30 until 9:00. Shall we do it again?

Another Breakfast

Please let us know of any member of Peace Church who may be graduating or being promoted from junior high this year. We’re aware, of course, that our 8th grade confirmands will be moving up. We’ve also heard rumors of college graduations, and even a PhD!
Although some may be unable to attend, we would like to honor all at a breakfast here May 20th. Please tell us who to invite.

Cemetery Cleanup

It looks like our spring cleanup of the cemetery will be the evening of Wednesday, April 25th. We hope to have our scouts assisting with this. Much debris needs to be removed, and weeds pulled and a fresh layer of mulch applied to the memorial garden.

Some Conversations About VBS

Usually we try to print only what we’re sure is right, as a way of controlling rumors. But in this issue we’re going to start rumors! An overheard conversation this week was asking if, instead of a one week Vacation Bible School this year, we continue with weekly meetings of God’s Children of Peace. There would need to be modifications, of course. First, we’d have to find an ideal day and time to meet. Then we would need to expand the usual after school time allotment so that we could offer recreation and more time for crafts, among other things. We would also need to include pre-schoolers.
All that said, what do you think? Might this be an idea worth considering?

We’re finding this hard to believe here in the church office, but there was an error in last week’s news! No, the pastor is not asking for moving help on a Sunday; only for Saturday May 5th, weather permitting.
However, making this correction does give us an opportunity to appeal again for help with the move or with the “Work Hard - Play Hard” event that same day at the camp.
There is more detail (and the error) in last week’s bulletin, which is available online or on the table in the annex. It would help if we had a count in advance for both appeals. In the case of the camp, it would be an opportunity to invite friends who may not know about all the camp has to offer. There will be plenty of time to look around.
