Today’s Offering Supports Neighbors in Need; OCWM

Today is the second Sunday of the month, so half of the offering will go to missions. That half will be divided between Our Church’s Wider Mission (OCWM) and the annual “Neighbors in Need” offering. OCWM supports the ongoing and diverse work of the Kansas-Oklahoma Conference and of the United Church of Christ. Neighbors in Need supports Native American ministries and a wide variety of initiatives throughout the United States, mostly congregation or community based, to work on behalf of and in partnership with the poor and marginalized. Our own Community Health Ministry was formed with the help of a grant from Neighbors in Need.

Special Congregational Meeting

The search committee has been negotiating with a potential candidate to become pastor of our congregation. The search committee, Consistory, the conference and the candidate have approved the terms of call. The plan is to invite the candidate for a “Trial Sermon” after which the congregation is asked to remain and vote on calling the candidate. The date for this is Sunday, November 4th. If the vote is favorable, (2/3 of those present and voting is required) the candidate will be informed of the vote and be asked to accept the call.
There will also be a “meet and greet” opportunity, probably the night before the trial sermon.

Youth Fellowship Tonight

This evening at 6:00, youth from our congregation and perhaps some of their friends will meet to snack, watch a movie, and begin to think about what a thriving youth program might look like. The event is open to youth in middle, junior, and senior high.

New Apprentice Acolyte

We welcome Duke Beggs as the newest Apprentice Acolyte. You’ll soon see him lighting candles. He already has helped the church by helping to straighten the sanctuary after worship, collecting communion cups, and setting up chairs and tables.

Mission Fest Next Week

Next Sunday is one of our favorite Sundays of the year. Folks from Prairie View will join us for worship and potluck. We’ll be getting an update on a mission we have supported over the last 15 years: Project Rescue of Amazon Youth (PRAY).
Andrew Schrader has offered to prepare pulled pork. If you are able to bring a side dish or dessert for the meal, please do so.
During our meal in the annex, there will be a display provided by the PRAY mission, as well as displays that give opportunities to those wishing to give “Alternate Christmas” gifts. We will also have buckets and lists of supplies needed to fill them, as we support Church World Service in preparing cleanup kits for folks whose homes have been damaged by natural disasters.

All Saints Sunday to be Celebrated October 28th

Ordinarily “All Saints” Sunday is celebrated on the first Sunday in November. However, October 28th is closer to the actual All Saints Day (November 1sr) and, since All Saints Sunday includes communion, the consistory has agreed that an October 28th celebration would be fitting this year.

Wink and GCOP

Annette Karr and Wink, the one Eyed Wonder Dog, made a return visit to God's Children of Peace this past Tuesday. They were last here about three years ago, telling us to remind one-another "You're worth a Million."
