News from the September 17 Bulletin

Sunday School in Full Swing

Now that autumn is almost here, Sunday School for those aged three through 4th grade is once again being held during worship following “Storytime.” Usually the topic will be related to the readings of the day.
Adult Sunday School continues to be held after worship. Paralleling the Confirmation class, today we will look at who we are as part of the United Church of Christ.

Lay Sunday Last Week

Just a quick thanks to all who led worship last week while the pastor was in St. Louis for the annual gathering of annuitant visitors. This was the first lay Sunday since 2005, when the church quickly rallied so the pastor could attend his father’s funeral. All went well, by all accounts. Maybe we won’t wait another 12 years!

Confirmation Sunday in Two Weeks

This past week the Consistory voted to confirm four confirmation students: Cecelia Emmert, Emma Frey, Kyndal Maike, and Isaac Mumaw, pending completion of any remaining memory work or other assignments. They will receive the rite of confirmation while confessing their faith in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior on World Communion Sunday, October 1st.

Wednesday, September 27th, will mark the annual event known as “See You at the Pole.” Students, faculty, and guests from the community will gather outside the local high school to give thanks to God and to pray for the school, teachers, students, the community, the nation, and the world. The exact time is yet to be determined, as Wednesdays are “late start” days.

Peace Church to Sponsor “Fifth Quarter”

Once again local churches are taking turns providing food and drink after home football and basketball games so students have a safe place to have a good time. Our date this year is December 15th or, if that happens to be “Winter Royalty” day, we will do January 26th. Any church member that would like to help out serving pizza of playing games around the tables or in the gym is welcome to come along.

Another Future Date

The annual “Three Season” Music fest will be held December 3rd at 3:00 in Maple Hill. Please save the date and, if you are so inclined, consider assembling a choir or bell choir or any group of one or more.

Confirmation Retreat/Church Day at Camp

Just a couple photos. We’ll put more on the website and maybe a few in next week’s bulletin.

Was this the first "Church Day at Camp" that featured horseshoes, bean bag toss and shuffleboard?

Confirmands and mentors take a break from study and devotion at the retreat to perfectly balance the "Whale Watch."
