Important Update on COVID-19

MARCH/APRIL SERVICES CANCELLED

April 1, 2020

We’re following county and statewide guidance to remain in our homes through the month of April. The Consistory will meet again on April 22nd for an update on where things stand. In the meantime, we hope you are enjoying our weekly worship videos. We have some new ideas in store for worship in the coming weeks – stay tuned!

Dear Friends,

I want to share with you that church leadership this evening voted to discontinue meeting in-person for worship and activities through the end of March. We will be meeting again April 1 to discuss when services may resume, hoping we have more information at that time. I know this is an uncertain time for many of us, but I believe we are making this decision because we believe in the importance of health and safety, especially for the most vulnerable among us. Soon, you’ll get more from me on how we can worship together “at a distance.” Please spread the word that our Lenten Dinners & God’s Children program will not meet again until further notice. More soon! Remember: You Are Loved!

Dear beloved souls and friends in Christ,

Like many of us during this Coronavirus experience, I want to have good information as I make decisions for myself and for those closest to me.

This is an uncertain and confusing time, and so it is important to listen to “the professionals,” and in this case those are the doctors, nurses, health departments, and others who help to keep us safe and healthy. Here’s how we are protecting you at Peace Church:

  1. Wabaunsee County Schools have closed until March 30th, and our after-school program will close, too. We will meet again on April 7th.
  2. We are meeting for worship tomorrow, March 15th, 2020. Our guest minister is Rev. Fred Kandeler. On Tuesday our Consistory will meet for our regularly scheduled meeting to discuss whether we should continue services for the remainder of the month. As you know, many churches are closing, and this is not a decision to take lightly. As soon as we have more information to share, we’ll share it here.
  3. As we have shared on Facebook, it is a good idea to practice social distancing, that is: keeping a distance from others of about 6 feet, washing your hands frequently, disinfecting spaces, etc. We’ll keep doing that and invite you to do so, too. But this isn’t a time to ignore others, in fact just the opposite: call your people, share your love, and find ways to give back to your community. This will be a difficult time as businesses and organizations (yes, even churches!) adjust to a new reality. Please continue to offer your support, including your offerings and donations. It makes a difference.
  4. As of now, we’re still meeting on Wednesday night for our Lenten Supper. We’ll let you know if that changes.

Remember, God is with us through all of this. With good information, healthy practices, and a time of social distancing, we can “flatten the curve” and keep each other safe. Wherever we go, and whatever we do, we know that God loves and cares for us always.

Take care.
